HEXA Forma transforms the heart of Bendigo into a vibrant, living artwork – reimagining Pennyweight Walk as a space where community, creativity, and nature intersect. This site-specific installation takes cues from the organic symmetry of beehives and translates it into an abstract, sculptural experience.
Suspended above the laneway, a series of striking 3D sculptural hives offer a bold architectural presence. These floating forms invite passersby to look up and engage with the space in a new way, creating a sense of wonder and connection to the natural world. Below, a series of honeycomb panels line the walls – their geometric shapes adding movement, texture, and depth. The panels act as an evolving canvas, balancing clean, modern design with an earthy, tactile energy.
But what truly brings HEXA Forma to life is the involvement of the Bendigo community. Through a hands-on workshop, locals are invited to paint wooden bee cutouts, each one unique. These bees are then installed within the honeycomb panels, creating a rich, layered display that celebrates collective creativity. This participatory element turns the installation into a dynamic conversation – one that reflects the diverse voices, talents, and stories of the city.
HEXA Forma blurs the lines between art and audience. It isn’t just something to be viewed – it’s something to be part of. Bold, bright, and deeply rooted in place, HEXA Forma offers a joyful reminder of what can be achieved when art is shaped by, and for, the community.
